|The Test Technician coordinates and participates in lab activities, including the development and implementation of appropriate tests, to ensure product compliance with design test specifications and generally accepted standards. The individual will also provide support for development efforts while ensuring protection of the test environment, including physical facility and staff.
Performs various engineering duties requiring the exercise of sound judgment and application of standard engineering principles and practices. Pursues initiatives to improve effectiveness of the group and increase customer satisfaction.
Typical duties/responsibilities for engineering may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Coordinate, execute and monitor design testing programs for prototype/product verification plans in cooperation with development engineers and project management.
Coordinate and execute project agency validation testing plans independently or under minimal supervision.
Create test specifications, procedures and templates and maintain updates as needed to be in compliance.
Provide leadership, guidance and training to test technician.
Troubleshoot and repair electronic and electrical circuits or complete electrical product or system from schematic drawings under minimal or no guidance
Coordinate and maintain instrument calibration and records (both electrical and dimensional).
In addition, the individual must fulfill these duties/responsibilities also
Assist design engineers in development work evaluating components, prototype assembly and product verification testing.
Maintain and use test specifications to test products and prototypes. Be able to interpret results to verify that performance matches requirements. Check reasonableness, prepare and present test reports and maintain records.
Perform certification testing to UL, CSA, and IEC standards and create test reports for UL, CSA, SGS and/or other third party certifying bodies. External travel to third party test facilities is a requirement.
Construct test setups and fixtures requiring mechanical construction and electrical wiring from design engineer specifications.
Solder surface mount components: 1206, 0805, 0603 sizes
Setup and collect data with test equipment like DMMs, ammeters, oscilloscopes, power meters, thermometers, Labview, etc.
Assist and participate in ISO 17025 audits for UL and SGS accreditations.
Help monitor equipment requirements to meet standards, specify and coordinate or execute purchase of lab supplies and equipment.
Help Monitor and maintain instrument calibration and records (both electrical and dimensional). Send equipment out for repair and/or replace when needed.
Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations.
Monitor lab safety policies and procedures including: lab safety improvements, annual safety audits, maintain MSDS, Job Safety Analysis reports, accident reports, update lab wiring diagrams as additional equipment is installed, monitor testing conditions (test setups) for safety and keep up with OSHA requirements.
Participate in lab safety committees as a representative of the development engineering department.
Maintain departmental housekeeping standards and participate in monthly lab safety inspection and clean-up.
COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:
Duties require thorough understanding of standard engineering theories, concepts, principles and techniques. Strong knowledge of drive and inverter operation including hardware and software. Proficiency in using lab test equipment, especially oscilloscopes, power analyzer, multi-meters, function generators, etc. Knowledge in diagnostic software such as DT, Drive Composer, Driveloader and adaptive programming. Some knowledge of LabView especially signal express.
Work is subject to general overview to ensure quality and efficiency.
