Job Summary:
The Saw Operator is responsible for safely and accurately operating various types of saws to cut materials such as metal, wood, plastic, or other materials according to specified measurements and production requirements. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in a manufacturing or construction environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain various saws (e.g., band saws, circular saws, table saws, chop saws) to cut materials according to specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine cutting instructions.
- Measure and mark materials before cutting to ensure precise cuts.
- Inspect raw materials and finished cuts for quality and compliance with required tolerances.
- Set up and adjust saws for different cutting tasks, including adjusting speed and blade settings.
- Ensure saw blades are properly maintained and sharpened to prevent delays or accidents.
- Monitor the saw operation to detect any malfunctions or irregularities, troubleshooting when necessary.
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used and completed tasks.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience operating saws or similar machinery (experience in a manufacturing or construction environment preferred).
- Strong understanding of safety practices and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Basic math skills for measuring and cutting materials to exact specifications.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work with hand tools.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with CNC saws or automated cutting equipment.
- Familiarity with different types of materials and their cutting requirements.
- Certification in machine operation or safety training is a plus.
