Mechanical Engineer I (Associate Project Engineer) - Contractor, you will work with some of the most talented engineers in the automation industry. This role will enable you to further develop your machine design skills to concept and detail custom industrial automation systems. What You’ll Do:
- Assist with the selection of components and creation of subassemblies.
- Contribute to the development of conceptual machine designs for various automation projects.
- Complete layout of machine through detail of components and subassemblies.
- Understand and assure compliance with applicable industry standards.
- Partner with cross functional team members throughout the design process.
- Supports the Sr. Project Engineer working closely with Manufacturing, Controls Engineering and Project Management to follow a project from its inception thru the MEGA 2, release for build.
- Support the Sr. Project engineer to prepare RFQ content for MD portion of RFQ, hand off to PM and purchasing.
- Assists the Sr. Project Manager as they conduct design review meetings for internal, as well as outsourced, designs attending customer and supplier project reviews.
- Works with the Sr. Project Engineer in maintaining project design schedule by monitoring project progress and resolving open issues.
- Supports the Sr. Project Engineer in assuring that equipment being started up and commissioned operates in accordance with the approved customer specification; interprets engineering drawings and specifications to develop and provide equipment installation instructions which are compliant with site installation requirements.
- Help conduct all phases of MEGA buy offs thru MEGA 3 and ensures that the timelines reflect the progress.
- Coordinate any kits that need to be completed after integration and install at the GM plant with help from Sr. Project Engineer.
- Submits purchase req’s for project standard care equipment (Torque guns & riveters) as well as specialty torque tools not covered in tool specific TIS whether being handled internally or with vendors.

What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field OR Associates degree with 2 years of related experience
Skills You’ll Have:
- Tool design and tool manufacturing knowledge or background
- Unigraphics NX experience with GM Tool Kits
- General Assembly tooling knowledge
- Versatile and able to multi-task working on multiple programs at once
- Strong communication skills
