Robotics Engineer

Position Overview

The Robot Engineer is responsible for all aspects of robot and vision programming and commissioning of all equipment in the Company product range. This includes,but is not limited to industrial automation and material handling, assembly and test equipment, industrial cleaning systems and industrial filtration systems.
 

Primary Functions & Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the Mechanical and Controls Project Engineers assigned to a project from its launch, through to the final customer acceptance and sign off, and for follow up and support services after this point.
  • Thoroughly examines and understands all requisite customer supplied specifications in order to develop the designs and functionality of the equipment to meet these specifications.
  • Develops robot and vision programs for all Company products, ensuring the designs are functional, safe, robust, and efficient and within the budget requirements. Develops these programs in accordance with the Company standard programming formats when applicable, ensuring accuracy and completeness in all aspects of the programming.
  • Develops and creates the functional specification documents that detail the functionality and set up of the equipment being designed.
  • Presents the functional specification document to the appropriate people as laid out in the company processes and secures both the required internal and Customer approvals.
  • Travels to the customer’s facility anywhere in the world as required for start up, commissioning and final acceptance on their floor.
  • Follows all the customer’s and Company safety policies while in the customer’s facility.
  • Commissions the equipment to meet the customer’s expectations as detailed in the approved functional specification and works with the Project Manager and any Company Service Personnel on site to secure the acceptance.
  • Works closely with the customer’s representatives and fellow Company representatives to complete the customer’s site duties in an appropriate amount of time, professionally.
  • Follows all Company policies and procedures diligently and effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High level of proficiency with Fanuc robots and vision systems, experience with ABB and/or other robots preferred.
  • PLC experience a plus
  • Basic understanding of the most current AutoCAD Electronic development software packages, or an equivalent CAD drafting package
  • The ability to learn new programming and development platforms quickly and effectively in order to meet deadlines and budget restrictions.

  • Requires excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to find ways to work under pressure and still make deadlines without cutting corners or endangering the safety of himself/herself or others, or the integrity of the equipment and the employer as a whole.
  • Requires ability to interact professionally with customers and suppliers who may.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required (20-30%).
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or Associates degree in a Robotics or Electrical Engineering discipline preferred, but not required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in flexible robotic cells and gantry programming.
  • Experience with the use of standard Office based programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, Power-point, etc.
