Mechanical Engineering Manager

Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for mentoring, shaping, and developing the Mechanical Engineering department. This position is responsible for budgets, staff development and training needs, and the annual performance review process.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities
  • Guide, direct and lead Mechanical Engineering design and development activities.
  • Oversee the Mechanical Engineering department to follow a project from its launch to the final customer acceptance and sign off, provide follow up and support services after this point.
  • Lead department to establish and maintain standards for Mechanical Engineering designs.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and service by directing trouble shooting and failure analyses activities.
  • Schedule, train, and mentor and Engineering staff through project leadership.
  • Establish strong relationships with other Engineering departments, Purchasing, Project Management and Manufacturing to identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Ensure products and services provided by the company meet the highest standards of excellence consistent with company goals.
  • Manage department and project budgets.
  • Influence the technological direction of the company within the goals and objectives of the company.
  • Develop and prepare technical and business plans to accomplish short- and long-term goals of the company relative to mechanical engineering functions.
  • Develop Engineering personnel into a highly motivated team able to meet customer requirements and business needs using performance management, assessment of training and development requirements, and career planning.
  • Demonstrate commitment to a Continuous Improvement philosophy including support of all quality, safety, productivity, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Effectively participate in the Employee Performance Evaluation Process by monitoring each employee’s performance, assist employee’s with establishing SMART goals, develop training plans and assist employee with future career goals.
  • Effectively manage with limited resources and work effectively with all areas of the company.
  • Follow all Company policies and procedures diligently and effectively.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • An understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks development techniques
  • The ability and willingness to learn about new products and components quickly and effectively to meet deadlines and budget restrictions.
  • Expert at communicating to all levels of an organization including, but not limited to: plant personnel, company leaders, customers, and suppliers.
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Superb motivator and mentor, and the ability to lead change.
