Mechanical Project Engineer - Team Lead

Position Overview
The Mechanical Project Engineer -Team Lead is a leadership position within the organization responsible for the technical success of our engineering solutions. The Mechanical Project Engineer -Team Lead is responsible to work with a cross-functional team of both internal and external resources to meet project technical, schedule and financial objectives. This role is also responsible to supervise the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the Mechanical Designers, ensuring timely and accurate completion, adherence to processes and standards, and addressing any related performance issues with the knowledge of his/her manager.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities
• Supervises the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the Mechanical Designers, ensuring timely and accurate completion and adherence to processes and standards. Appropriately addresses any related performance or behavior issues. Ensures his/her manager is knowledgeable of all performance related matters; involves Human Resources if there are performance issues.
• Participates in the completion performance evaluations and development of SMART goals for Mechanical Designers, as well as the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and on-going training of new Mechanical Designers.
• Works closely with the Applications Engineers, Controls Project Engineers and Project Managers to follow a project from its launch to the final customer acceptance and sign off, as well as provide follow up and support services after customer acceptance as required
• Directs day-to-day activities of Mechanical Engineers and Designers assigned to his/her project
• Thoroughly examines and understands the Customer supplied specifications in order to develop the designs and functionality of the equipment to meet these specifications and deadlines
• Utilizes CAD software (currently AutoCAD and SolidWorks) to develop designs, prepare drawings, prepare Bill of Materials (BOMs) and layouts as required
• Develops equipment specifications (request for quotations) for mechanical design and/or build by outside vendors; ensure these vendors follow Company processes and meet project quality, delivery and cost objectives
• Assists with the development and creation of the Functional Specification documents that detail the functionality and set up of the equipment being designed
• Create/update Process and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
• Create/update Treatment plan (technical document to communicate cleaning/drying process to achieve customer expectations)
• Create/update Sequence of Operations
• Travel to any customer’s facility as required for resolution of equipment issues; while in the customer’s facility, follow the customer’s and Company’s safety policies
• Assist with the commission of the equipment required to meet the customer’s expectations as detailed in the approved functional specification, and work with the Project Manager and any Service Personnel on site to secure the customer’s acceptance.
• Work closely with the customer’s representatives and Company representatives to complete the customer’s site duties professionally and in an appropriate amount of time
• Follows all Company policies and procedures diligently and effectively
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Advanced understanding of AutoCAD and SolidWorks development techniques from college course work, and on-the-job experience
• Advanced / Expert understanding (functionality and operations) of industrial washer components, robotics, and automation
• Ability and willingness to learn about new products and components quickly and effectively in order to meet deadlines and budget restrictions
• Ability to lead project teams, which includes coordinating work within internal, and eternal resources
• Ability to work onsite within the Company office and at customer sites as required

• Highly organized
• Requires excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to find ways to work under pressure and still make deadlines without cutting corners or endangering the safety of himself/herself or others, or the integrity of the equipment and the employer as a whole
• Ability to create and maintain professional relationships with suppliers and customers
• Domestic and/or global travel to customer sites for resolution of issues. Up to 30% (10% - 15% is the average)

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related Engineering discipline (7+ years of experience working specifically with industrial washing equipment, or other custom machinery, may be considered in lieu of degree)
• 5+ years of experience in the Mechanical Engineering field
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, specializing in custom machines and/or capital equipment
• 5+ years of experience leading/supervising mechanical designers. Proven ability to effectively handle employee-related issues.
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook (required), Excel (Basic level required, Intermediate or Advanced preferred), Word (Basic level required, Intermediate or Advanced preferred), PowerPoint (Basic level required, Intermediate or Advanced preferred)
• 5+ years of experience doing designs with AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other design software
• 3+ years of experience utilizing SolidWorks 3D software

Physical Demands
• Must have adequate finger dexterity for drafting and computer use
• The position involves reading, writing, mathematics and measuring
• Employee may work in the manufacturing plant which may require walking, standing for long periods, stooping, and kneeling
• May involve exposure to equipment hazards
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time via air travel and/or vehicle travel
Work Environment
• Work primarily is done in an office area using a computer.
• May be required to work in a manufacturing shop area, where work surfaces may be slippery or uneven
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; in some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.
• Shop temperatures may not always be controlled and could vary from hot to cold, depending on the season.
